As a friend of ours put it, “Danielle, you are always
posting or talking about food!” My husband and I are what you might call food
fanatics. Food is something that we can always relate to, no matter where we
are in the world. The simple pleasure of arousing the taste buds with a new
flavor or spice is something that is an indulgence for me. The food does not
have to be intricate, expensive, or even gourmet. Some of my favorite foods
have been very simple with one or two flavors.
That being said, we are not gourmet chefs. We use some
recipes that we have found over the years that we enjoy and at other times, we
just throw items together. We have had a new culinary experience since we have
moved to France. Having fresh produce, cheese, and meats at our fingertips
everyday of the week has been a new, exciting challenge for us. We are slowly
getting out of our safety zone that includes making items that are normal for
us and trying new items that are the norm here in France. I used to plan out
menus for a whole week and go to the store once. It doesn’t happen that way
here. We are getting used to shopping about every other day. Shopping for a
whole week of food is not possible because, one, there is not enough room in
the fridge, and two, some items will perish in less than a week. So my menu planning
has been put to the side and we look at what is fresh or in season when we go
to the market.
I am going to show a different meal that we have prepared in
a different blog each day this week. Don’t be surprised if you see a salad with
most of the meals. We tend to eat a salad almost every night as a side. It is
just hard not to when they are so deliciously fresh! Please let me know if you
have any ideas on how to cook certain meats or vegetables. I am always willing
to try anything new!
Bon appétit!
I will not be surprised to see a salad every night as I know that Derek is obsessed with them. And peaches.
ReplyDeleteDerek has had a peach or two every day for the past two weeks, so you are correct. We have even started having salads for lunch, imagine that!!
